I am an Artist working between the mediums of painting and drawing. I am interested in the material qualities of my chosen medium and how they can work with and against my ideas and the surprises that can occur when one surrenders to the unconscious.

My work is autobiographical in that it deals with the frustrations, pleasures, the isolation and peaks and troughs of being a Painter, of being poor, of making mistakes and healing trauma, of sometimes wondering what I am doing and other time being overwhelmed by the sublime of the everyday. I have always worked on the spectrum between abstraction and figuration and one of the important tensions in my work is where I am at any given time. Figuration being more about being in the world, while abstraction about the interior landscape.

My imagery is populated by my fascination for strong women, for dance, for ecstatic and abysmal states of being. I am a reader of folklore and fairy tale, hard science, bad poetry, the fetishistic, the medieval mindset. I am not afraid to deal with the darker themes of humanity and art is in a sense a therapeutic tool on my personal journey of being human as much as a means of trying to convey feeling to others. I am a a firm believer that the viewer completes the work and that an artwork only truly lives when a pair of eyes and other senses confront the artwork in reality, not through a screen.
